Wood artist John Tobin has been practising the 3 Dimensional inlay carving craft of “Intarsia”for more than 30 years,specialising in Birds of the Tamar Valley for half that time.
His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally but now can only be viewed and is sold from his showroom in Windermere, Tasmania..From small boxes to large cabinets, mirror’s and carving’s,John’s work is amongst the most beautiful and original woodcraft being produced in Tasmania.
John uses all of the Tasmanian timber’s as well as Mainland species to create woodcraft that can take anywhere from a few hours to 9 months to complete.Inlay work is cut using scrollsaws and carving is completed using only Stanley knife and sand paper.
